In the past week, the Regional Administration of Sicily presented an ambitious plan to equip Sicilians with a "smart card". The smart card will hold the owners health records so as to simplify the process of obtaining a patient's history.
In order to facilitate the take-up and use of the card they will be introduced through schools first in the pilot cities of Palermo and Caltanissetta. The administration is hoping that the students will then be able to teach the older generations how to use the card to access health services.
We will be reporting on the results of the pilot project and on whether Sicily will become one of the first fully digitized Med island in the near future!
