The view from Villa Circi is a mosaic of colours. The myrtle silhouette of pine trees and silver firs cast their shade over sinuous hills of fern green and pale brown fields. The austere, cloud-wrapped peaks of the Monti Sibillini stand vigil in the distance, while, close-up, the warm russet of an elegant belfry hints at the brick houses, soaring arches and porticoes that wait just outside the front door, in the medieval Le Marche town of Amendola.
But the interiors of this ancient red brick palazzo rival with the views. Villa Circi dates from the 15th century and “has been painstakingly restored using period materials and blending period style with modern touches,” says Gildo Ercoli of selling agents A&G Immobiliare. Beamed ceilings, graceful niches framed by exposed bricks, fireplaces and arching doorways infuse the rooms with a rustic Italian Renaissance feel which is heightened by the interesting furniture—wooden chests, cupboards, wrought-iron beds—included in the sale.
Outside, there is a lovely patio garden—a rare treat in a medieval townhouse—with a small fountain and a wrought iron gazebo, which affords “unparalleled views” over the Sibillini mountains.
The asking price for Villa Circi is €980,000, which, “given the size of this property [some 600 square metres] and the quality of the restoration work, represents excellent value for money,” according to Ercoli.
