Ciao, I have trawled the web for evidence of expat communities in Perugia [the city] without success. I've been looking at Perugia as a place to retire and while I'm willing to integrate as far as possible in Italian society - I think that is an emigre's responsibility - I am a native English-speaking Australian, retired widower as well. I know that good strategies in moving into any place where you know few or no people is to start networking in areas of your own interests. I did that successfully in my home city in Australia where I have made some lovely friends in a fairly short time through choirs, theatre [I act] and in other social contexts. Are there any expat Perugians who could point me in the right direction?

There is rather large (~60 families or more in comune with population of ~1k or so) anglophone community in the town of Introdacqua in Abruzzo.    Mutually supportive community; great food; Abruzzese hospitality.   You can buy luxury townhouse for ~200k euros; many old abandoned houses in need of restoration on the market available for under 50k euros.   You could do worse...
