On a recent visit to see friends in Calabria I was given some dried figs by a kind neighbour. They were very different from the ones usually available in the UK in that they were completely black, like giant raisins, and very very moist and sweet. He told us that they were figs that his friend had grown on his organic farm. They were absolutely devine. My baby son loves them and, as he is a fussy eater, sometimes the only way we have been able to get him to eat is to chop the figs through other foods for him. They are the only thing that he will actively put in his mouth and try to eat! The trouble is that we have now eaten them all and I can't find anything like them locally. Does anyone know if they are available in the UK. I bought a pack of the usual dried figs available here but he really doesn't like them (and neither do I). I'm wondering if they were soaked in something? If anyone knows of anywhere in the Southend on Sea area where I can get some more I would be sooooo grateful.
