A friend of mine is thinking about buying an ex-display kitchen from Italy and has been told that there would be no custom duties to pay on importing to England. This sounds strange to me. Does anyone know whether this is true? Of course there would be VAT payable.

The website says "If the total value of all the items you declare is over £1,000, you can claim a zero rate of customs duty if you can prove each item was grown or made in the EU." So maybe it is duty (but not VAT) free. But, if I can find it, speaking to a helpline is a good idea.
