Hi Francesca, yes it does matter where you are resding. Great tour put together leaving from the states in October hits all your areas. It only spends one day in Rome doing a food tour in Testaccio, which is a different view of Rome.https://www.globetreks.com/southern-italy-culinary Many tours use Rome because more direct flights fly into Fiumicino airport, especially from the States. But you can go without a tour, just plan for local guides to take you arond the areas, don't need them with you always, just certain days to see things and navigate for you. There are mini tours within Sorrento, be with a group for three days and then explore on your own. Tons of day tours to Capri so can do that again for that day.Good luck!Williamaye
Thank you for that info.

Hi Francescame and my sister are also going the same time. We are flying in to Rome and driving up to Tuscany for 5 days then driving down to Sorrent for 10 days. I rented an apartment in Sorrento near Piazza Tasso. Sorrento is a great home base to explore the coast. I went last year by myself and had the best time. You don't need a car or a driver. In Sorrento you can take the train, bus or ferry anywhere. I took the ferry to Capri and Naples, the bus to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, and I did a bus tour to Pompeii and climb mt Vesuvio. And of course I explored Sorrento. You can book a tour through Viator but most of it you can do without tours. It's more fun hopping on a bus and just go. There are lots of hotels, B & B, and apartments in Sorrento. You want to be near the center or close to or on corso italia, the main st in Sorrento with all the restaurants, bars and shopping with easy access to the marina, bus and train.I you need any other info feel free to contact me directly at posey_patti@yahoo.com. Maybe we can meet up in Sorrento.Patti Posey
