Travel Cards in and around Rome

Hi all againGoing back to Italy again next Thursday for 2 wonderful weeks! (4th visit)  We're staying near Anzio and as ever would love to meet up with any ex-pats as we are still very much seriously considering a move.  And we're all very excited about seeing Rome (toss-up between me and the kids as to who's most excited!).Anyway - the serious business - we have been advised the best way to see Rome is with a travel card.  The one we're looking at - don't ask what it is, I don't know - goes out as far as Anzio and covers travel but lasts 3 days, so we'll do a 3-day hit on Rome early on and then probably a 1-day visit in the 2nd week.  It also covers entry into 2 attractions and reduced prices on some of the others.  But does anyone know of a better way?  Finances are a bit tight but we're not hiring a car this year, what other deals should we be looking at?  Are there any web sites we'd be better looking at?  I'm most interested in the Forum and the Colesium personally.  And ice-cream again.Anyone have any other good suggestions?  What else is there around Anzio that's worth a visit and easy to get to?  I'm really interested in the history of Anzio itself.  We're having much more of a chill-and-do-very-little holiday this year and are close to the beach but I don't do beaches very well - I get bored!

We were there in May, did find Rome very expensive.  We didn't get the card as we were not sure we would get benefit from it.. We did use the red 110 hop on hop off bus first 24 hours to get the hang of the place, then walked and taxid after that, were staying in historic centre so most was in walking distance.  We had a great time, but I think the climate in May was just about perfect.  I did get a lot of info from Tripadvisor forum before we went.We drove south after that, only stopped in Cassino as it featured in father=-in=law's WW2 experience so can't comment on Lazio.Have a great trip!

Thanks guys.Really looking forward to being back there and getting some sun! Weeks of grey and rain are getting on my nerves!! We're staying not far from a railway station with a direct run into Rome. One of the guys where I work was in Rome last year and said it was very expensive. We're only planning on going in a couple of days, the rest is chill out and relax and after the last few months we need it!Barry - so very much appreciated, see you later this week.
