Liguria for the Gourmet
Liguria is not just beautiful, it also offers an excellent cuisine. It’s here that pesto, one of the most popular sauces for pasta, originated. Seafood is also a major staple of Ligurian cuisine, as the sea has been part of the region's culture since ancient times. And how about focaccia ligure, always delicious, whether it’s soft or crunchy, plain or flavored with onions, olives, rosemary or sage. All of this bounty should be accompanied by some of the excellent wines produced on the many terraced vineyards, like the Pigato and Vermentino (whites), the Rossese, Ormeasco and Ciliegiolo (reds) and the sweet dessert wine Sciacchetrà.
We've compiled a list of fun experiences for the foodie traveling to Liguria: learn the secrets of local cuisine by attending a cooking class, visit a winery for some local wine tasting, cook the real Pesto alla Genovese, discover the ancient tradition behind the Sciacchetrà wine...and, finally, relax at your hotel overlooking the sea!
