We were on a guided nature tour through Le Balze. We learned that Leonardo once traveled through this area discovering and documenting the rugged rock formations here. He deduced that this area was once under water from the fossils he discovered. Later, he incorporated the sketches of the rock formations in his paintings. Check out the Mona Lisa!
We spent two great nights on Lake Como in Varenna. This is a view approaching Varenna from the vicinity of the Fiume d' Latte which we had explored earlier in the day. On our way back, we took a few moments to capture this romantic view of Varenna.
After a day of rain and hail, we came back to our Tuscan villa in time for sunshine and later a spectacular sunset. The olive trees seem to be reaching up for every bit of sunlight left in the day!
Our first day in Pienza was filled with exploring the numerous shops and restaurants down various side streets in one of our favorite Tuscan cities. The vibrant colors of the accessories sold themselves and promised to make any meal happy.
I took this photo from the Boboli Gardens while visiting Florence in September of 2017. It was an overcast, day but every where we walked the vibrant greens from the garden and the blue/grey sky set off the warm hues from the city set out below us. I have a love of any decorative iron work and thought it would make an interesting "frame" of the garden and city unfolded below a grey sky.
Taken June 2018 approximately 20 km from Montepulciano.
