Italian Conversations: At the Café
ITA:
It’s mid-morning in Florence and, after two hours spent visiting the Duomo complex, you need a caffeine fix.
Tourist: I need coffee.
Florentine friend: Me too actually. Caffè Gilli is great, and it’s only five minutes from here.
T: Oh yeah, great. I read it’s a historic café on what was Florence’s ancient Roman forum. I’m also hungry by the way, I definitely wouldn’t mind getting a snack.
F: Let’s go then!
Entering the café.
Barman: Good morning ladies.
F: Good morning! I’d like a cappuccino.
T: A cappuccino for me too. I’d also like a treat.
B: Certainly. We have so many. Do you prefer something with chocolate, fruit, a slice of cake, a millefeuille?
T: So many options! It's difficult to choose. Barbara, why don't you get one too? Then maybe we can share.
F: Okay, I'll make the effort! After all, I have to help you discover the best of Florence. You choose what you want to try.
T: Thank you my friend. I’d like the millefeuille with chocolate and the 'Tuscan flavor'.
B: Excellent choice, they are two of our most popular desserts. Why don’t you go sit down, and I'll bring you everything to the table.
T: Thank you very much.
Barman brings food and coffee to the table.
B: Here you go.
T: Thank you very much. To her friend: Thank you for being my guide in Florence and for taking me to discover such special places.
F: It’s a pleasure. It’s a way for me to enjoy my hometown. And now let's eat these delightful treats!
È metà mattina a Firenze e, dopo due ore trascorse a visitare il complesso del Duomo, hai bisogno di una dose di caffeina.
Turista: Ho bisogno di un caffè.
Amica fiorentina: A dire il vero anch’io. Caffè Gilli è fantastico, ed è a soli cinque minuti da qui.
T: Oh sì, fantastico. Ho letto che è un caffè storico in quello che era l'antico foro romano di Firenze. Ho anche fame, uno spuntino me lo farei proprio.
F: Allora andiamo!
Le amiche entrano al bar.
Barista: Buongiorno signore.
F: Buongiorno! Vorrei un cappuccino.
T: Un cappuccino anche per me. Vorrei anche un dolcetto.
B: Certamente. Ne abbiamo tantissimi. Preferisce qualcosa con la cioccolata, con la frutta, una fetta di torta, una millefoglie?
T: Quante opzioni! È difficile scegliere. Barbara, perché non ne prendi uno anche tu? Poi magari li condividiamo.
F: Va bene, farò questo sforzo! Dopotutto devo aiutarti a scoprire il meglio di Firenze. Scegli tu cosa ti va di provare.
T: Grazie amica mia. Allora vorrei la millefoglie con la cioccolata e il ‘Sapore Toscano’.
B: Ottima scelta, sono due dei nostri dolci più apprezzati. Se vi volete accomodare, vi porto io tutto al tavolino.
T: Grazie mille.
Il barista porta il cibo e il caffè al tavolo.
B: Ecco a voi.
