Why Italy in Winter is a Good Idea

Let’s look at each point.
Cheaper airfares and hotels: Except during the December holidays, prices for airplane tickets drop during the winter months, which means you have more money to spend in the country. Hotels rates are generally lower too, except in ski resorts, where February is actually the high season. Perhaps you could even afford that dream hotel or villa you’ve wanted to stay at for a long time!
Less crowds: Granted, there are cities that never seem to lose the crowds (think Florence or Venice), and yet, between November and February, even the most popular destinations have fewer tourists, which means shorter lines outside the museums and enough space and time inside to actually linger on that painting you like so much. On the streets, you don’t have to fight the crowds and you can fully enjoy the charm of Italian cities with their historic monuments lit after dark (the plus side to shorter days in winter).
Plenty of cultural events: Museums usually put up their most interesting exhibits in winter when people are more inclined to spend time inside. The theater and opera seasons are in full swing. Winter festivals continue throughout winter (Italians will not give them up just because it’s cold).
Winter sports: Italian ski resorts lead the way, especially in the Dolomites, which boast Dolomiti Superski, one of the largest ski areas in the world, with 1,220 km of slopes where you can use the same ski pass. But just so you know, Italy has more than 300 ski areas, from north (Courmayeur, Cervinia, Cortina, etc.) to south: yes, even in Sicily you can ski, and on Mount Etna, which is certainly a unique experience.
Winter sales: who wouldn’t be happy to take advantage of reduced prices when shopping in Italy! Sales begin around January 6 and continue until the beginning of March. This is your chance to snag designer’s clothes and items at an affordable price.

Perché l'Italia in inverno è una buona idea
Beh, che dire:
- Tariffe aeree più economiche e (in genere) prezzi degli hotel più bassi
- Meno folla
- Eventi culturali in abbondanza
- Sport invernali
- Saldi invernali!
Diamo un'occhiata a ogni punto.
Tariffe aeree e alberghi meno costosi: Eccetto per il periodo natalizio, i prezzi dei biglietti aerei calano durante i mesi invernali, il che significa che hai più soldi da spendere in Italia. Anche le tariffe alberghiere sono generalmente più basse, tranne che nelle località sciistiche, dove febbraio è in realtà alta stagione. Magari ti potrai permettere quell’hotel o villa da sogno dove da tempo volevi soggiornare!
Meno folla: Certo, ci sono città che non sembrano mai essere senza le folle (si pensi a Firenze o Venezia), però, tra novembre e febbraio, anche le destinazioni più popolari hanno un minor numero di turisti, il che significa file più brevi fuori dai musei e spazio e tempo a sufficienza per indugiare su quel dipinto che ti piace tanto. E per le strade, non c'è bisogno di fare a gomitate e si può effettivamente godere il fascino delle città italiane con i loro monumenti storici illuminati dopo il tramonto (il lato positivo di giornate più corte in inverno).
Un’abbondanza di eventi culturali: I musei spesso allestiscono le loro mostre più interessanti in inverno, quando le persone sono più inclini a passare il tempo al chiuso. Le stagioni teatrali e operistiche sono in pieno svolgimento. I festival invernali continuano per tutto l'inverno (gli italiani non vi rinunciano solo perché fa freddo).
Sport invernali: le località sciistiche italiane sono davvero all’avanguardia, soprattutto nelle Dolomiti, che vantano il Dolomiti Superski, uno dei più grandi comprensori sciistici del mondo, con 1,220 km di piste dove è possibile utilizzare lo stesso skipass. E se non lo sapessi, l'Italia ha più di 300 aree sciistiche, da nord (Courmayeur, Cervinia, Cortina, ecc.) a sud: sì, anche in Sicilia si può sciare, e sull'Etna per di più, che rappresenta sicuramente un'esperienza unica.
Saldi invernali: chi non sarebbe felice di approfittare di prezzi ridotti quando si fa shopping in Italia! I saldi cominciano intorno al 6 gennaio e proseguono fino ai primi di marzo. Questa è la tua occasione per trovare vestiti e oggetti firmati ad un prezzo accessibile.
