After the romance of Saint Valentine’s Day, some lucky people’s hearts and minds may turn to nuptials. Brescia’s Musei Mazzucchelli celebrate the art of the wedding with a show dedicated to bridal garments.
Called ‘Dettagli di cerimonia: storia di un abito per una promessa’ (Ceremony Details: The History of a Dress for a Vow), the exhibition traces the evolution of bridal-apparel styles from the late 19th century until the 1970s. The show runs from 23 February to 1 April and will be mounted in the Museo della Moda e del Costume (Fashion and Costume Museum) section of the museum complex.
The Mazzucchelli Fashion and Costume Museum is one of Italy’s top museums dedicated to fashion. It houses approximately 6,000 items, including dresses, accessories, traditional costumes, hats, handkerchiefs, umbrellas, fans, gloves, jewellery and lingerie dating from the mid-18th century until the rise of haute couture in the 20th century. The collection also comprises photos, prints, postcards and sketches from the 19th and 20th centuries that chart the changing taste in fashion during modern times.
The show runs from 23 February to 1 April. During the same period, some of the oldest dresses in the Mazzucchelli Fashion and Costume Museum’s collection will be on display at Juliet’s House in Verona in an exhibition from 11 March.
The show in Verona is titled: ‘Fascino e seduzione: L’eleganza femminile delle collezioni dei Musei Mazzucchelli al tempo di Angelo Dall’Oca Bianca’ (Charm and Seduction: The Feminine Elegance of the Musei Mazzucchelli Collections in Angelo Dall’Oca Bianca’s Time). Born in Verona, Dall’Oca Bianca was an Italian painter active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
