Italian Man Puts Coffin In Garden To Deter Thieves
words by Carol King
A Sicilian pensioner opted for a strange anti-theft device: he put a coffin in his garden to warn off burglars.
The bizarre anti-theft device was visible above a wall surrounding the retired man’s property in the town of Santa Croce Camerina in Ragusa, Sicily. However, the Italian newspaper ‘La Repubblica’ reveals that the odd initiative worried passers-by and the man’s neighbours who, thinking it was some kind of strange warning, reported the presence of the wooden coffin to the police.
The pensioner justified his placing of the coffin by saying he had put it in his garden as a warning but only one to potential thieves as he wanted to frighten criminals.
