Project sponsored by the Centro Servizi Calzaturiero in collaboration with the Lucca Chamber of Commerce and the Environmental Ministry.

Combating counterfeit goods to save Made in Italy. This is the goal of the ''Carta d'Identita' della Calzatura Italiana'' project developed by Ce.Se.Ca (Centro Servizi Calzaturiero) and promoted by the Ministry for the Environment and the Lucca Chamber of Commerce. The entities have created a new and more secure tracking system to guarantee the consumer's choice.

The principle is simple yet important: every pair of shoes will have an identification card that will tell the history of the product by tracing its life cycle. It is a way to ''certify'' the quality of the product by understanding the choice of the best materials, the system of trustworthy and monitored production and to ensure a company ethic based on respect for the environment. Above all, however, is the attention to the consumer's well being.

Consumers are paying increasing attention not only to style but also to the production processes, in other words, they want shoes that can be defined as ''ecologically correct''.

The companies understood this need and the need for information on the part of consumers about what they put on their feet and how and where it was made.

The ID card addresses this need: consumers, thanks to an online research engine, can verify the ID card of the shoes they purchased.

When a customer buys a certified pair of shoes, he or she can immediately know if they were made by following an eco-friendly production process; they can then find the verification of certification on the Internet, viewing the production chain and whether the process respected the environment and whether the shoes are ''green'', therefore able to ''protect'' the health of the consumer.
