Last week, Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook and one of the wealthiest men in the world, and his new wife, Priscilla Chan, toured Rome, Capri, and Amalfi on their honeymoon, dodging aggressive paparazzi and citizen photographers throughout.
The couple was first spotted in Rome sitting on the Mignanelli Steps near Piazza di Spagna sharing lunch from McDonald's before they took a private tour of the Vatican with a priest and tour guide. In the evening, they had a lavish dinner, including flame-grilled fish, lobster pasta, and fish carpaccio, at Roman institution Pierluigi before retiring to their suite at the Portrait Hotel owned by the Ferragamo family.
For lunch the next day, the couple dined in the Jewish quarter at Nonna Betta, where they were publicly accused of neglecting to tip. The restaurant went so far as to post Zuckerberg's bill online. The owner, Umberto Pavoncello, who has no negative feelings about the couple, is considering renaming his fiori di zucca (fried zucchini flowers), which the couple ordered, fiori di Zuckerberg.
From Rome, the honeymooners transferred to the Amalfi coast, where they stayed at five-star Hotel Caruso in Ravello and dined at the two-Michelin-star Rossellini Restaurant. In the morning, they rented a 12-seater private speed boat for a day trip to Capri. After touring the island in a taxi convertible, they dined on octopus salad, grilled prawns and seafood and cherry pasta at Da Giorgio at a table with a view of the bay.
In the evening, they cancelled their plans to visit Positano and the Cumpa Cosimo restaurant in Amalfi, as both were already filled with photographers. They visited the small island of Li Galli for a sunset cocktail before dining in their suite.
