The Euro Mediterranean Festival is set to begin today at Syracuse’s Greek Theater and Taormina’s Greek Theater.
Magical views, great music, and ballet productions are the ingredients of the 14th edition of the festival, which, for the first time this year, is adding a new venue, the ancient Syracuse auditorium, alongside the traditional location of Taormina,and expanding its repertoire usually dedicated to the performance of Greek classics.
The event opens with the new production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida in Syracuse, also performed on the evenings of July 19 and 26. Other shows include Carmina Burana by Carl Orff (July 20), Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (25) and a Dance Gala (18) with the participation of some of the étoiles from the most important dance companies, from the Royal Ballet in London to the Paris Opera.
In Taormina, music and opera continue with Cavalleria Rusticana, Tosca, and the symphonic music of Beethoven, Wagner and Strauss, ending on September 6 with Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio.
