Piazza del Popolo is Rome’s favorite place for tourists, followed by Piazza del Campidoglio (Capitoline Hill) and the Auditorium (music complex). The Colosseum, the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain are the best known. St. Peter’s Basilica offers the best experience.
These are the results of a research carried out by Unindustria, titled “Rome, tourism and the digital revolution: how the hospitality industry in changing.”
More than 30,000 opinions and evaluations expressed on social media in English by tourists visiting Rome were used.
The vice president of Unindustria Giampaolo Letta said the tourism industry is the only one that keeps going well despite the recession and he expects a further 50% increase in the next ten years.
Rome has received a total of 74 out of 100 points. Hotels, shopping and restaurants rank high, museums are just average, while the airport and taxis score low.
