An unusual custody battle

La Repubblica has this story of “too many people and a dog”:

It began when a young Milanese man called Marco and his fiancée from Loano [Liguria] adopted a four-year-old [male] mongrel called Vicky. Vicky was registered as living with the girl but actually went to live with Marco.

Marco, however, was also seeing an older, married Milanese woman and one day, to show her how much he loved her, he gave her Vicky, telling his fiancée that the dog had run away. The girl was very upset while Vicky enjoyed being pampered by the Milanese woman.

Some time later Vicky’s new owner took him to the vet and her husband went with her. The vet discovered Vicky’s microchip with his registered owner’s name on it and thus, cheating Marco was found out. The two women fought over poor, confused Vicky and then decided to go to AIDAA [the Italian Association for the Protection of Animals and the Environment] for a decision. Now Vicky resides with Marco’s ex-fiancée but spends a few days a month with the Milanese woman.

And Marco? His ex-fiancée wants to take him to court for theft of an animal and his Milanese ex-lover wants to take legal action against him for dishonesty.

Would you like to supply the moral to this story?
