A few days ago, the Veneto Regional Environmental Agency launched a fire alarm for the region. The terrible "fire season" has already arrived in the Verona and Vicenza areas, with an almost certain arson-set fire destroying some of the wonderful woods on the Asiago
plateau.
Over fifty fire fighters and a helicopter have been battling to limit the damage caused by the fire, finding at least eight outbreaks.
The constant decrease in rainfall in the region, with a very dry winter, is not helping. Weather forecast experts have predicted a hot spring with no snow and little rain. Since October 2011, only 20-30cm of snow have fallen on the Dolomites, about 60-65% less than average.
