8969 Advice on tiling costs

Can anyone help? We've bought a property in Abbruzzo and need to have some floors laid/replaced. At the moment they have tiles down and we would like to replace the tiles with something more modern. This is on the ground floor. In the Uk a reasonable price for the whole job is approx. £50 per sq metre but we're being quoted way more than that over in Italy yet we expected tiles and labour to be cheaper. Does anyone have a reasonable fix on what cost should be? It seems a good proportion of this price is for taking up all of the cement under the tiles?

Thanks for the replies.
Can you remember how much you had to pay the builder then to do the digging up and removal of the old cement?

We just had a price for an additional extra small patio in the garden, 800 euros for the base (38 sq.m); 12 euros a square metre for the tiles and 17 euros a square meeting for laying the tiles including preparation, massetto to level, grouting and whatever else is necessary - tutto incluso

Actually I seem to remember before when we had the big patios around the pool done it was between 30 to 35 euros a square metre.
