You know, back in UK we lived in a small village in Cheshire (Over Peover), and all we could get ther (due to the aged BT exchange) was 1.5mb.
We are now blissfully esconced in Le Marche and are getting a (totally) wireless connection of 1.2mb (through Fidoka)....enabling us to literally walk around the house (if we wanted to) whilst............
Carrying out the following

doing all of our International banking online (no probs),

Email everyone and anyone as we like (no probs),

We attach (sometimes) huge photographs and/or videoclips to friends and family (no probs),

We watch and contribute to Youtube, (no probs),

Watch Skysports news (not live) (no probs),

Webcam LIVE friends and family (around the world ....hardly any probs),

We listen live to Terry Wogan (ok ok ok!) most days,
Do I need more access ?????:no::eerr::eerr:

The thing they don't tell you about the modem that they provide is that it costs you each month so I bought my own. I get on average 6.5 mb download speed with this (but it is a high speed one- I am very untechy & it gives me 125 of something that most modems have 52 of!!)

I don't think for a moment that we will get 7mbs but anything is better than the dial up speed we've had for the last year. I'll definitely check out your supplier though, perhaps we need to think about this a bit more before we commit... I just got so excited when I went on to the site and our number was now available for broadband. How come you've had access? We must be nearly neighbours....
Thanks for your reply
(I also used to live in Cheshire - Nantwich - but then moved to sleepy Dorset which was the last place to get broadband and slow at that!)

Don't mess about, just get on with it I say !!
We live just south of the Cimiterro(?)...access is via their dish over near Mote San Martino

I just got upgraded free by Telecom Italia to 7Mb from 2Mb and it is a bit quicker but I haven't noticed any amazing difference and I use it all day, doing fairly heavy things over the internet as an IT consultant working with clients usually in the UK.
To answer your questions, Simon & Jo:
1. I would recommend buying your own ADSL modem. Try Servili computers in Piane di Falerone or M&P in Comunanza (whom I use). Do you have a laptop? If yes, then you might want a wireless router for your ADSL (but only if your laptop is capable of revieving a wireless signal), then you can receive your internet connection all around the house just like Sprostoni but without the dish.
2. Alice Voce is for domestic Italian calls only so you will have to weigh up how much you use the phone to make Italian calls to decide if it is worth it. Personally I don't make that many so it is no use to me but I do have Teleconomy Internazionale which costs me €10 a month and gives me free unlimited calls to anywhere in Europe and the USA (amazing deal as I spend most of the day on the phone to the UK!).
3. They keep plugging Alice Home TV but as I understand it you actually need a 20Mb download speed which no-one (please someone correct me if I am wrong) in Marche has - maybe in Rome!
Some things to remember:
1. Make sure you have an ADSL filter on each phone socket or else you will have problems - I was given 2 by the telecom engineer
2. You will need to configure a wireless router if you choose one. It is not difficult but maybe not intuitive if you are not confident with technology and it's in Italian.
I personally don't use any other providers for teleconomy becuase the €10 a month deal from Telecom Italia is too good to give up as I use it so much. From a couple of friend's experiences avois Tiscali like the plague as you cannot speak to a person in their phone system so if you have a problem you are stuck.
If you need any help or want to give me a call about any of it just send me a PM

Thanks everyone - and Penny - will pm you later if that's OK - thanks for your help...

Hi Simonandjo
I would check that they can really supply 7 meg, we had 4 meg from Tele2 which was slow, then downgraded to 2 meg which infact is twice as fast.
The Voce will be voip, but that should not affect the use of normal telephone line, we have skype and use Telecom Italia International service , which is 10E a month and all our calls to Europe/UK and the USA are free.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
