A theoretical question.What happens if you calculate the ICI tax but for some reason the amount is incorrect.If you pay the incorrect amount at the post office,will the commune accept it and credit your account with the extra if you pay too much or accept the lesser amount and leave you owing a bit if you pay too little or must the amount paid always be the exacy amount owed?

we paid too much in our first year - double in fact, as we paid it ourselves (via our really helpful Geometra) and our (really healpful) estate agent had also paid it for us too without consulting us first. Comune happily banked both payments and when we realised what had happened everyone advised that (unless we were desparate for the cash back) it was easiest just to let them hold onto it until next year to avoid the bureaucacy of claiming a refund. Can't tell you about the converse scenario.
