I could not agree more, Sally. Lucca is a wonderful city, worth a visit. I strongly recommend it to anyone.
Currently, there is a great Puccini Festival taking place called "Puccini e la sua Lucca", the first festival dedicated to this fabulous composer with Concerts and Recitals. For more information have a look at Puccini e la sua Lucca - Presentation of The first Festival dedicated to Giacomo Puccini & his music in Lucca - Puccini Events Lucca - Puccini Concerts Lucca - Opera Concerts Puccini with a Grand Opera Gala on the 31st of December.
According to an article I recently read, Lucca is aiming at becoming something similar for Puccini to what Salzburg is for Mozart.

Oh to be there. Lucca is such a beautiful little city, tuated on the river Serchio, and the birthplace of one of my favourite Italian composers, Puccini. His house is in the centre, has been newly refurbished and is now a museum and archive.

The museum gathers a number of documents and memorabilia concerning the life and work of the composer Giacomo Puccini, who was born in Lucca in 1858. Remarkable exhibit: the piano used by Puccini for the composition of Turandot.

Lucca also has the Museo Nazionale del Fumetto e dell'Immagine (National Museum of Comics) on Piazza San Romano, launched in 2001 to celebrate the best Italian comic characters and authors.
