8806 The Art Monastery

Despite this being planned for my little village of Calvi Dell'Umbria, I'd heard nothing about it until google alerts thew up this link today ... though I have visited the splendid monestary venue & its gardens on past open days.

Their concept sounds interesting as an architectural/cultural/culinary initiative; The vision is a somewhat bizarre mish-mash of new age hippydom & corporate entertainment, and I'll be interested to seee how it pans out.

My initial thoughts are that the setting is so very beautiful and that I would love to get involved in the project. Unfortunately however I find the website sore on the eyes at present so I'll bookmark it for later investigation.

Thank you Pigro

It sounds interesting, although the final result will depend on the people involved in the project.... and the availability of funds.

I've just remembered a huge beautifully restored convent in Northern Tuscany a few years ago that was for sale at a very reasonable price. The owner ran art courses there.

indeed - If you click on "about us" the founding people are profiled there ... professor of gregorian chant at University of Gratz, Austria, Professor of art history at university of rome, various other European & American scholars, muscologists, composers & artists ... also the founder/director of the batignano Opera Festival (whose venue is another renovated convent in Tuscany) ... the list goes on ... sound like a bunch of "heavy hitters" to me!!

just got an email from the guys who are supervising the renovation ... the rest of the team are doing a fundraising tour of "six major american cities" right now ... and they appear to have professional fund raisers and ex-executives of multi-nationals also on board so I have a feeling they may be capable of getting the funds they need.

It will certainly be a team job and the best people are needed for the team. Sounds very impressive. I do hope that they will be able to carry on with the project as it would be worthwhile. Money is a big issue in projects of this nature, it will be great if they can raise enough funds as money is a bit tight right now.
