10745 New Vineyard Competition (Winemaking)

OK, so for reasons already mentioned I didn't manage to run the vineyard competition this year. So here is a (shorter) alternative.
As you may have read in my other posts, the barbera d'asti grapes had some challenges this year and our yield was much lower than we would have liked.
I have now completed the initial fermentation process and this week pressed the "must", thus separating the grape skins from the liquid. I now have an accurate measure of the alcohol content of the 2008 vintage.

So the competition is quite simple:

Hmm, Barbera Superiore has to be 12.5 and sounds like you've done a fair bit better than that. My choice has gone, so I'll go a bit higher:

Thanks for the good wishes. Will have to wait a little while though, will bottle this vintage in two years time.......
The 2007 vintage gets bottled this month (not the superiore) - now that will be good!

Phil, lucky you to get at least some Barbera this year! Around Asti we were hit a lot harder by the mallatie in late spring/early summer, I wrote my crop off, very disheartening. Picked some rappule to make a few litres of something just to have as a reminder of 2008.
