11495 Has anyone received European Funding for a new business?

We have been told by various local government people, business people etc., in Italy that we could well be eligible for European Funding to help set up our new business venture in Picinisco.

Has anyone received such funding?

We have details of the department called Lazio Bic (I think it is spelt like that, not sure) and heard it is match funding, the amount depending upon what categories you fall into, ie tourism, art, education, manufacturing etc., Much the same as through Business Link here.

We are prepared to finance our venture ourselves but like govenment business grants in the UK, a bit extra money to enhance what you are already planning to do doesn't come amiss.

I would be interested to hear if anyone has gone down this route and whether it was worth it.

Hi Maralyn,

There has been quite a lot of discussion on this subject over the years as I had heard that we might be entitled to a grant of some sort. As it turned out, it was more of a deferred tax credit, which we decided was more trouble than it was worth. However, there may be other grants that I'm not aware of.

I found this thread, but I am sure there are plenty of others in the archives.

I have asked my accountant a couple of times but he keeps saying that yes there are schemes but there is no money. We are going to join one of the small business organisations (CNA) who offer free legal and accounting advice (doesn't replace having an accountant). They also have people who specialise in what grants are available and give pension advice. I suspect the grants and rules are different in every area but there will be various small business organisations in your area.

CNA stands for Confederazione Nazionale dell'Artigianato e della Piccola e Media Impresa.
