3473 Shopping in Arezzo

I'm going to Tuscany later this month and would like to know where the main shopping area is in Arezzo . I'v browsed the web for information , but can't find much in English :( , most of the websites talk about the Jewelers , the Piazza & the food market . I also have another question about Arezzo Calcio but i'll put it in the sports thread .

I would appreciate if anyone could help me :)

The reason they talk about jewelery is that it is ,with Vicenza, the largest production center of industrially manufactured gold jewelry in the world.Apart from that, as with most small Italian towns, you'll find some lovely small shops of all kinds in the centre, and i'm sure they'll have built one of those disgusting shopping malls by now just outside the town for which you won't have any difficulty infinding it as the whole place will be full of indications for it.My advice would be go to the shops in the centre of the town "near the piazza"...and, if you require food shopping,go to the market better stuff ..more fun ..and can even be cheaper sometimes than the supermarket..but all decidedly nicer and a living experience.

It's relatively easy to find, the main strip is pedestrianised and there are numerous other streets leading off it. Apart from antiques (and you have to look really hard for most are seriously over priced) is it really that good for shopping though? I wouldn't say so. I'd far rather drive over to Siena, up to Florence (naturally), even Cortona, range of shops there isn't as good but lots more charm.

The main shopping street in Arezzo is Corso Italia and runs from near the station where bombs fell in the war and the buildings are newer. Cross Via Roma and as you go up the hill the buildings become older. Around Piazza Grande, near the top off to the right, are the main antique shops and lovely for browsing. Nice cafe there too under the portico.
Arezzo has some lovely food shops, not so great for boutiques, excels in Antiques and curios and the monthly antique market on the first Sunday and preceding Saturday is a must. If you can hang on till the 3 and 4th of June. Hundreds of stall holders from all over Italy. For clothes I would try Sansepolcro where I live now, about half hour drive away. Great for menswear.

Thanks very much for all tha advice :) Hopefully i'll have an enjoyable day trip in Arezzo !
