3968 Another Newbe in Abruzzo

Hi everyone.

We are over the moon that our offer for a property in Calazzotto has been accepted. We've not had a lot of luck buying abroad in the past so please wish us luck (hope we don't need it though).

Can't wait to join you all before the end of the year, or a I being too impatient!:)

It's good to see the Abruzzi region gaining in popularity with English buyers but I wonder why all the interest is focused on the eastern, Adriatic side. The western side, bordering Lazio, for example, is not without its attractions - not least proximity to two international airports (Ciampino and Napoli).

Where is Calazzotto, by the way?

I focused on looking for a new home on the eastern side of Abruzzo because if I wanted to live in a place with easy access to an international airport and cold and wet winters, I could just stay where I am in Scotland. :)

According to my map, there's a village of that name about 26 km east of Sulmona and 22 km SW of Lanciano.

Are you suggesting that the Adriatic side has a better climate? Why would that be? Down with Eastern Abruzzi imperialism! Long live the Western Abruzzi Liberation Front!

Erm...

That would be because I've read the books that describe the climate and listened to people who live in the area.

....what about your brothers in the Liberation Front of Western Abruzzo
........and your comrades in the West Abruzzo Resistance League?

Sorry, Neil, you set me off there (it doesn't take much!)
Hi everyone......
Seriously, though, congratulations on your purchase.......and welcome to the forum!

Oh, where the flip-dee-doo does that name come from B.E.D.?

I wonder if we really want to know.

Yes, Calazzotto is not far from Lanciano with beautiful views and very friendly people. As for B.E.D - Baby Eddie Dog - our puppy Eddie the springer spaniel, who will not be terrorising the inhabitants of Calazzotto

Pah! The LFWA are a bunch of reformist compromisers in the pay of the Pescaresi and the WARL ultra-Abruzzi poseurs with no serious orientation towards the mainstream popular movement.

And anwer me this 'What have the Western Abruzzi ever done for us??' (Bestest John Cleese voice there!!!):D :D :D

Welcome to Abruzzo. It's all beautiful (East and West) but you have to pick somewhere!

Hope you will be very happy and that everything goes smoothly for you.

i would also echo any welcome sentiments that have been posted in reply to the original message her... be patient i would say... make sure that your offer has been accepted in writing and follow a lot of the advise given on the forum about checking things before parting with substantial sums of money and basically if you are dealing with a reputable agent(how could you know) am sure all will go well... i know the area where you are well enough but its quite a way off from here up in the northern end of abruzzo ...anyway good luck with tit all and well done

obviously the east west debate is well underway in this thread, luckily you have bought on the right side... i dont know why neil is so determined to fight for that side, with no code fiscale... his question in another posting ....it ...suggests he neither lives here, owns here or even rents here so what are his particular comments based on and why.....

would be interested in the basis of his comments before suggesting or adding to the well constructed views of allan... and arguing wth any liberation movement...

It's where my grandparents come from and I spent many a delightful summer there as a yoot and still do, sometimes. And remember that those who argue with the Western Abruzzi Liberation Front may end up sleeping with the fishes...
