8491 Long time no hello!

Hello everyone.
I have been a long time subscriber to Itay mag and an avid reader and writer to the forum section, however, I have never introduced myself so here goes.
My name is Mick (60) and my wifes name is Lesley (58) and we will be retiring to Italy this year.
We have a house in a beautiful part of Emilia Romagna high on a hill with breath taking views. It is partly furnished but still not quite a home. Our Italian is rubbish and at present we rely on our friends and neighbours but we intend to learn as soon as we settle. I am sure that we will both continue to use the forums for all the advice and help it offers.
I am sure that this new year will be the start of a wonderful life for both of us and we can't wait.
Felice anno nuovo tutti

Best wishes, hope it all goes well for you both.

Thank you for sharing this with us. All the best for 2008 and the future!

Good luck then Mick and Lesley from Paul and Chris,
We are not so dissimilar, except you would have to swap age and gender around. We too are packing in the day jobs this year, but our house in Umbria need a lot more work yet!
So that's Lupo introduced then!
All good things for 2008!

Hello Mick and Lesley,

Where about in Emilia Romagna is your house? My girlfriend is from a small town near Formigine (MO) but from your description I'm guessing you might be near the Appenines?

Hi

We are very envious, as we are about to complete on our property in Umbria near Lake Trasimeno, fortunately not to much to do to it, but regret that due to the business commitments we cannot retire for a few years, all the best with your renovations, good to here from another Umbrian.

Thats what we said 4 years ago when we bought (southern Umbria) - as it was a recently built modern house with only a few finishing touches to apply.

Here we are, kitchen replaced, portico (with 2.5 metre deep armoured cement foundations) added, zanzariere (sp?) fitted, roof terrace semi-glazed, all copper gutter flashing replaced with stone, internal wiring rerouted to provide roof light sockets, anti-calcare filter installed, all shutters dipped & stripped and varnished, full external repaint ... and we haven't even started on external paviers, landscaping, external light fittings, automated main gates , bathroom fixtures etc. etc. not to mention the dreaded pool)

I'll look forward to your post in 4 years time to see how you get on, but expect the unexpected at all costs (and it will all cost, believe me!!)

Thanks for the wishes Lin and Chris and hope your completion goes well. When we've got two rooms habitable, as in hot water and flushing toilet and maybe a wood burning cooker, we'll let you and this forum and Pigro know!

Hello Mick Chick,
The Piacenza apennine area is really lovely, as I'm sure you know!
I'm half Piacentina myself and after so many years in Italy it never fails to impress me in so many ways.
Good luck with move.
