3966 Free use of agricultural land binding?

Hello all, just recently came across this site and am fascinated.

Several years ago I bought a farmhouse in Piedmont (near Mondovi). The house came with a small vineyard and several acres of meadow, which I have been allowing two neighbors to work without payment. (I live in California and spend about a month a year at the house at the moment.)

Am I bound in any way by this? It keeps the place up, and forms a connection to the village, both of which are important benefits, but I don't want to limit my future choices.

Thanks in advance

Here's a thread from last year two pages, don't think anything has changed since.

well done for chosing Piemonte, that is where I come from!!

what do you mean but am I bond to it?

Do you mean that the people that are working the land are going to occupy it?

To be entitled to occupy a piece of land and claim its yours, you have to occupy for somethhing like 50 years and I think the owner must be lost, or gone,or something,. There is such a thing as usucapione, but it takes forever and you do not have to worry about it.

But if you are worried why don't you stipulate a rental contract with them, lets say the pay just for 5 euros a year of rent or something, so that you have a legal agreement in place just in case.

Hope this helps!

Paola, Did you read the thread, it explains all you have said but more clearly.

Thank you for your posts, I will check the other thread.

Paolo, I have a house in Ciglié, just above Mondovi, but if I were looking I would certainly look in the Monferrato, what a beautiful, unspoiled place. I import a wine from Cella Monte (La Casaccia).
