We were not issued with residency certificates, only an ID card each.
Could anyone tell me under what circumstances we might need to produce a residency certificate?
(Don't want to bother if we are unlikely to be asked for one but would happily go into the Comune and get one if it might be asked for regularly)
Best wishes, Lesley

I needed to show my residency certificate to the Water authority so that I pay considerably less standing charge, to the comune for the ICI (also smaller charge) and to the bank for the resident's bank account. You would also need it to buy a car.

Thanks rosietat,
Before we were issued with our ID cards we were speaking to a lovely, helpful man in our Comune about the need for our residency in order to change our bank account to a residents account and also for Enel to give us the residential tariff.
He filled out a form and got Brian to sign it but I had never imagined it to be a residency certificate, in fact it seems like some sort of self certification.
I have dug it out and it is entitled:
Dichiarazione sostitutiva dell'atto di notorieta' (Art. 47 D.P.R. 28 Dicembre 2000, n.445)
Da presentare alla pubblica amministrazione o ai gestori di publicci servizi.
Does anyone know just what this document is?
And just what does residency certification look like? Is it generic and a prescribed format?
Confused of Belvedere (It doesn't take much....)

That's an autocertificazione di residenza. You can substitute it for the certificato di residenza from the comune.
I've just noticed that our residence certificates have a statement that indicates they are only valid for six months from date of issue ............ can anybody shed any light on this. We are EU citizens - do we have to renew residence certificates every six months?
Hi TB. I think it's just the certificate that's valid for 6 months, not your residency. You don't really need to keep a certificate at all times, you just go and get another one if you need to show it for any reason. They just churn them off the computer when you request one.
