8471 New in 2008 thread...

... seems to be taking off, as usual. Same old arguments.

I'm sorry to have missed the announcement of the temporary restrictions of C&D/Nielo, Turtle & Torch which would have been useful to know.

It appears we should dig up old dirt as 'evidence', eg for bans such as Karen/Anastasia's. Many of her older posts were deleted, edited and are no longer the way they were. Many of her comments on IU about many of us are probably edited now too. I've read some and they weren't nice. Not that I look in often - not my cuppa.

I wouldn't be happy with having Miss A back but you can imagine if I say that openly in that thread all hell would break loose. Happy to do that though but I'd need old proof. I gave her many chances at the time but have seen what she's like since. I've been at the receiving end of their slagging-off on IU lately too and not impressed. Sadly I can't agree with pigro that her intentions to return are because she loves this forum. Philanthrophic, is she now?

Sorry to be so blunt but it appears there's not going to be a happy ending for everyone. There'll always be sides, even if we try and keep to the middle. :nah: Sadly, we've been here before. Annec's right - someone 'always' won't like it.

If they ask mods to be so neutral as to ignore jibes & nasty name-calling from the past, I don't think I can do it. A leopard can't change their spots. They can't either.

I vote for letting everyone back in and starting again.

Steph, appreciate the honesty and find it entirely justifiable.

I myself am still considering what would be best and I think a vote on the subject from all the existing mods would be very useful. I realise I can't ask everyone to vote now since people are on holidays/etc so we just need to be patient and wait.

Best,

Ronald

I have rarely witnessed such persistent harassment and bullying spread widely. I don't understand the motivation apart from an odd kind of domination. I have felt silenced for a long time now, have ignored things and try to write my boring posts with studied neutrality to escape notice! I shouldn't feel that way; I have only occasionally felt a focus of attention. An alternative forum exists(interestingly it appears Andy no longer owns or controls this; it appears Anastasia does) - although that may often be about 'ITrag and personalities' - this group has the option to make this a vibrant and interesting community.

This continues to be a useful Forum for people thinking of or living in Italy. It would be a pity for it to disappear. Perhaps a new gestation is appropriate. Although it is difficult and there is no right way through this I would not expect any different behaviour from any of the individuals in question, after a brief honeymoon, if they were given carte blanche to return. I'm not completely up to date with the thread - if I'm being asked to vote - its a no.

Ronald, with respect, this is not the first time that mods have found out about member restrictions, forums amendments or other important matters second-hand. You might do a lot of good by discussing something ith us first & then announcing it.

OK, I was on holiday & off-line when all this kicked off so missed out in the squabbles, but having a fairly long history here, can imagine what did/ didn't/ might have happened.

As I say about, I've have preferred that we'd discussed this in camera and then come up with a party-line before having it offered to the rest of the forum in a post.

We are here to help Ronald, so let us, eh?

For my two-pen'orth, forget 'em, forget the possible change to moderation; the only reason you're querying your line is because of one or two complete @rses who enjoy seeing you squirm in public.

You should not need a larger mod-squad, you have one already; you just ned to make better use of it.

Having opened Pandora's Box, Ronald, I guess it's now time to face the music (and dance) .................. what is the plan for '08?
