10529 Hotel near Ciampino (Rome) airport

Hi Rob,

Terravision buses run from Ciampino to Termini Train Station so anywhere on the "right side of the tracks" around there would be fine. See attached link for the buses:

Be aware however that there are a number of seedy hotels in that general area.

All in all though, I would think it would be better to be right in Rome so that you can stroll around for the evening and take in the atmosphere. Around Ciampino would be relatively grim by comparison.

The buses are timed to coincide with flights so you should have no problem getting a bus first thing in the morning.

I can PM you with details of a place we have stayed in around Termini if you want.

I know there's a number of hotels near to the airport but I haven't stayed in any. If you Google Ciampino hotels you should get them that way.

Ciampino Airport is only half an hour away from the centre by metro to Anagnina then from there, the direct shuttle bus. It's considerably cheaper this way.

We stayed at Dei Consoli Ciampino in the summer (not to be confused with the hotel of the same name in Rome). Not bad I guess, though we arrived too late for the restaurant and the bar food was not very inspiring. In hindsight staying in Rome would have been better. The public transport links from Rome to Ciampino are great during the day, but peter out in the early evening leaving you reduced options and waits at e.g. Anagnina transfer depot - a bit grim. Terravision is an option though a bit pricier than public transport.

It is even less by train from Termini; about 20 minutes. There is then a shuttle from Ciampino station to the airport for €1.20; pay on board. Allow up to 40 minutes for this as they are not as frequent as they should be.
Alternatively if you have just missed the shuttle you can share a cab "in collectivo" with others and get there for about €5.
If you can check-in online before you arrive & go directly to security, it will save you 1hr!!

Yes but how much is it by train Pip Pip??? The way I suggested costs €1 by metro then €1.20 bus.

I ususally take it as it is just a stagger from one train to the other at Termini. The Ciampino (Albano) train usually leaves from around platform 26 but it is best to check with the display boards. Your ticket usually has the train number & dep. time printed on it so you can find it on the departure board, if it doesn't then there is usually an information point (bloke standing under a little flag) smack dab in the middle of the of the platform area you can ask.
Don't forget to "obliterare" your tickets in one of the yellow machines before boarding.

I know this route only too well and the thing that lets you down is the bus, either from Anagnina underground or Ciampino station. Late at night I'd rather arrive at Ciampino train station and get a taxi to the hotel near the airport as I do not like Anagnina late at night. I also do almost believe the gossip that the Taxi drivers rule the roost but at least when you get to Ciampino railway station you can get a taxi easily, if necessary.
Note there is another coach company the operates to and from the airport to Termini which charges about an euro less, so if you choose to go by coach look out for it.
The hotel nearest to Ciampino airport which will give you a reasonable stay for the night is Best Western.

I would rather spend the evening in Albano ( 5 mins up the hill from Ciampino if no traffic) or Marino or Castel Gandolfo -all within a very short taxi ride from Ciampino. You get to see Italian life at its best in the Colli - nice friendly restaurants, evening Passegiata and its a welcome change from the bustle in Rome if you have already been to Rome a few times and just want to chill. Someone posted once before about a B&B in Albano which they rated highly
but I can't recall the name. You could even take a bus in the morning but a taxi would be more reliable and not very expensive.

What's wrong with staying in Ciampino? When we fly to Liverpool from Rome we stay at Hotel Villa Giulia. They have free under grould parking and you are a hundred yards from the centre of town and 5 minutes from the airport. We drive up from Calabria and take the car back to Ciampino before we fly out. You can also get a bus from the airport to Ciampino and it's just a short walk to the hotel. It is very friendly and the price includes breakfast. A double with breakfast ranges from 70 to 100 Euro depending on which room you take. They do have a website.

I agree - Ciampino is not the prettiest town in the area but it is safe and very Italian. Seems like a good option sorella

Personally I would have thought that most Rome hotels would operate premium prices compared with hotels on outskirts
