Frantiani,
My mother was stopped in France 2 weeks ago on her way to Italy. Luckily she saw the police van in time & managed to slow down alot. Still not enough though & she was 'asked' to stop.
Explained in basic French that she simply didn't realise how fast she was going and with three smiling ladies in the car she got off more lightly. Still had to pay Eur90...
Ahh it still pays off being a gal! ;)

Iona, my hubby paul said no chance of me driving ,as we need to get to Italy this year.............:( so I guess going im having to get the false eye lashes out and hope for the best, at one time we would leave uk in morning and be in Italy for our evening meal. Paul loves the cars and the roads abroad so perhaps the answer is a couple of valiums, safety belts, and hang on for dear life........ oh yeah the lashes:)

Nice one, Will!! ;)
I think my mum swapped the Manuel look (for obvious reasons) for flashing her lashes... and she had a pretty blonde friend with her ... so even more lashes to flash... so don't forget yours, Frantiani! :D

Oh you are so right! There are times when you judge that "no spika di lingo" is exactly the most favourable approach!
I actually did it in England, in an Italian reg car on the A1 where you would have had to have been a mind reader to realise the limit was 60 rather than 70mph - luckily the English policemen who pulled me up were apologetic, and we had a fun sign language time with them pointing at my speedo (which of course was exclusively in kmph), and I enjoyed playing the full drama of Italian Signora............works both ways!! :) :)
A friend from Montegiorgio informed me recently that the Carabinieri have used the confiscation of documents trick a couple of times recently too, mainly for revisione problems, but the result is the same...
