I have a flight on the 8th January (which reminds me I still haven;t recived my Itinerary fro, Ryanair.)

Oh goodie!!!! We are flying back to Italy from the UK at 6.30 in the morning on the 28th!

Thanks for posting this Sally, I will watch the news later.

Errata - which reminds me I still haven't received my itinerary from Ryanair.

Don't you print it out as soon as you book it??

Thanks for the warning. Having had the worst possible trip over to Italy last week (fire alarm & evacuation at Heathrow, missed connecting flight fri night, spent night at Milan, next morning airports closed due to snow, finished journey by train - problems there, also due to snow. Oh, and lost baggage!) I was rather hoping for a more tranquil return to the UK. Ho hum.

Good heavens! What a nightmare for you. Might be best not to tempt fate & stay put a bit longer! Have a very Merry Christmas anyway.

Latest update they've voted for two 24 hour strikes called for the 7th,14th and the 21st of January.

My new ink cartridge (£20)is not being recognised by the computer at the moment and Ryanair usually send the itinerary soon after booking, but not always which is a little scary!!! I also save the web page of the booking confirmation but this time there seems to be a problem viewing the page.

Anyway it looks as if that flight is to be affected by the following- The strikes are on!!! No mention yet on Ryanair's web site as I write.

Sorry I didn't notice your thread above. My return flight to Rome is 8th January to 17th January ..... Oh I don't like the sound of this .....

"Union members will stage three strikes: two 24-hour walkouts starting at 6 a.m. on January 7 and January 14 and a further 48-hour strike from 6 a.m. on January 17"
Sorry to be pedantic, but two 24 hour strikes called for the 7th,14th and 21st of January... doesn't that actually make three ??

You are but,your right!
Going down in a van at around the time of later strikes, so as sticking to earthly transportation am not affected, but my sympathies to anyone who is.... hanging around airports has to be one of the most overpriced, mind-numbing and soul destroying occupations available.
Torchiarolan, do you go back to the UK in your van afterwards? I presume you're in Torchiarolo, Puglia? (do I know you?) I may have something that needs transporting back to the UK - happy to pay costs, of course.

That's why I quoted an excerpt from the article link.
Hi Hazel
no sorry, am going Ireland-france return on ferry, could bring it as far as to Cherbourg, or maybe to Ireland, if you know anyone who visits there, I could store it for you, but probably messy arrangement for you.
Doing same trip again in March. Maybe going via UK, later in spring early summer, but at moment with hi-roof van promotional fares Rosslare-Cherbourg all in at 418 euro return incl cabin, it doesnt make sense to go my usual route via UK.
Once they get their new ship bedded in and if present low fares go spiralling up, then I will return to driving Rosslare-Fishguard (or Pembroke) -Dover, then Dover-Calais.
Yep your right, near Torchiarola in snowy Puglia.
Ciao
Never mind - maybe next time. Have a good journey and I hope the weather's kind to you.
Regards,
Hazel

As it happens it's four. The strike on the 21st is a 48 hour one so I guess that makes it four.

Just to be on the safe side -- in case anyone picks up late on this thread, the third stoppage (of 48 hours) is scheduled to begin at 6.00 a.m. on January 17 (not January 21)

Newly posted update on Ryanair (at last)

POSSIBLE BAA STRIKE ACTION ON 7th JAN

We have been advised of possible strike action which may result in the closure of the BAA airports on the 7th Jan 2008.

Ryanair flights to / from the following airports may be affected if these strikes go ahead:

Aberdeen

Edinburgh

London Gatwick

London Stansted

Ryanair is calling on the BAA monopoly and the UK Government to ensure adequate contingency plans are in place to minimise passenger disruption. There are unlikely to be any further developments over the Christmas holidays but we will update passengers on this web page on / before the 2nd January.

Just to say that talks are being held today between the unions and BAA. Fingers crossed.

They've broken down now, unfortunately

What a pain ..... I hope they are going to talk again real soon.

Thank heaven for Luton airport!!

lol Yes for once!!! Does that mean that if I fly iback to the IK the flight to Stansted will be diverted to there??? Or maybe London City???
