8890 Ryanair robbed Pigro at Ciampino!
Taken from Ryanair'a site today............it hasn't changed since October Pigro!
If the woman at the desk was trying to charge you for the trip from Stansted to Ciampino, then our advice would be to shout loud and long if a man or cry if a woman!!
Who can Check-In online?
The following passengers do not qualify for Online Check-In:
Passengers travelling with checked baggage
Children aged between 14-18 years travelling alone
Passengers travelling with infants
Passengers travelling with mobility equipment (including children's pushchairs)
Passengers with reduced mobility, blind/vision impaired passengers including those travelling with a sighted companion (*)
Blind/vision impaired passenger travelling with a guide dog (*)
Passengers who require special assistance at the airport (*)
Passengers travelling from Italy to the United Kingdom
Passengers travelling on a passport which is due to expire within 30 days from the date of travel.
When there are more than 9 passengers booked in a reservation
Passengers travelling on the same reservation with a passenger who is not eligible for Online Check-In
Where a passenger is unable to avail of Online Check-in by reason only of a matter marked (*) above, any Airport Check-In fee paid will be refunded at the time the special services are requested. Where a passenger is unable to avail of Online Check-in by reason only of not being the holder of either a valid passport or a National Identity Card, issued by the government of an EU/EEA country, any airport check-in fee paid will be refunded upon application.
Thanks Noble. Firstly, this is now a very old issue - this thread may confuse people looking for up to the minute info, so (to those people): don't be confused, as my circumstances were a one-off dating back to last year.
Next, AFAIK, this has changed, in that there are now specific Italian airports which do support online check in (Ciampino is one; I've since used the facility there). I think other posts elsewhere on the forum today about the RA website revamp also mention additional Itlaian airports now also included. However in my case the tickets were purchased before the online check-in rules (& charges for not doing so) were even introduced, so it was (or should have been) a moot point. Note also that ONLY those exceptions marked with an asterisk allow the charge to be refunded; the italian clause isn't one of them, so no exemption?
Regardless, I didn't have the time to stand & shout/cry ... "if you don't pay 2€, you don't travel" was the check-in android's stance; missing the flight on a point of principle would have been rather a phyrric victory! I could of course have complained after the event but I reckoned the time, stress and call charges to do so would outweigh the 4€ I stood to recoup. Chalk another 4€ up to O'Leary's pension fund.
Finally, their reasoning for making me pay the charge was not that I couldn't do an online check-in at Ciampino, rather it was that I'd attempted to do so (which I hadn't) but failed to complete it. In other words they were mistaken, lying or (most likely) their software was playing up.
