Fossacesia (Abruzzo)

Fossacesia is a city in the province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The town is located on a small hill on the left of the Sangro River's mouth, about 2 kilometres (1 mi) from the Adriatic Sea. A historic attraction in the town is the Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere. The town is also home to the Romanesque Period Church of San Silvestro, dating to the 11th century.

The announcement coincides with the forthcoming 15-year anniversary of a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck the town and surrounding areas in 2009. Mayor Pierluigi Biondi said that the title will aid in rebuilding the social fabric of the community.
