Marano Lagunare (Friuli Venezia Giulia)

Marano Lagunare is a town in the Province of Udine, in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Marano Lagunare borders the following municipalities: Carlino, Grado, Latisana, Lignano Sabbiadoro, Muzzana del Turgnano, Palazzolo dello Stella, Precenicco, San Giorgio di Nogaro. The small village not only has the largest fishing fleet in Friuli, but also the largest fish market in the region. Marano Luganare was settled by the Romans and was a fortified base in the days of the Doge’s Republic of Venice. Today the village is not only a holiday destination but still plays an important role in the processing of tuna.
