Pescocostanzo is a town in the Province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It is a very popular tourist destination, attracting people from all over Italy due to its beautiful landscape and environment. Very close to the town there are the towns of Roccaraso and Revisondoli, also very famous among Italians and foreigners. Especially during winter time, many people move to this region in order to ski and snowboard.

The announcement coincides with the forthcoming 15-year anniversary of a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck the town and surrounding areas in 2009. Mayor Pierluigi Biondi said that the title will aid in rebuilding the social fabric of the community.
