8512 Plans

Hello All,

So - plans for 2008 are quite simple.

We are working on a brand new website to replace the entire italy magazine website.

Community/forums features will be deeply integrated in this site so even just explaining exactly how it is going to be is quite hard. The best way will probably be to just see it yourselves. If you are a facebook user I can say that it will have some of those features combined with some features like wikipedia (so the Grand Tour sections can be better managed and also pages like the ones David has put together can be better presented) and there will of course be forums just like now but perhaps a bit more straightforward.

As soon as something is ready I will invite you in to have a look around but the site proper will probably not be live before March. Once live anyone can register.

As I has already mentioned this on a thread here I did not think I was breaking news in public that moderators were not aware of - but I guess I did give out more information in the Circolo thread.

Regarding the 2008 thread in the Circolo - I guess I felt it was necessarily to make it clear to some people that their constant harassing will not lead to an equally stupid and irrational reaction from me (although some might class my post as stupid and irrational:smile:)

Regarding moderation. I had to stop Nielo and Torchiowhatever because they were going in overdrive. I did not take any other moderating decisions other than allow a thread were people could have their say. Again I thought that was the best way to contain discussions.

As for their suggestions to bring others back. I would vote no and I think so would most of you except gardahomes perhaps. I've tried to rise above their little "let's google ronald and see whether we can have a laugh" but I really can't. I would also vote to not have them on any other version of italymag and hopefully they wouldn't be interested about that either.

But my vote is one and the moderating team is larger. So if more people want them back as long as they then don't break other rules I guess they can come back.

My guess is that Aliena will come back. Yesterday she revealed to me in a PM that she is also Mungo - so the question is do we ban Mungo as well? I vote yes.

Finally, with regards to the suggestions regarding moderating made in the Circolo thread. I think the semi-open place where people can air their opinion could act as a release valve (I've said my piece and can calm down now) without disturbing other places in the forum and perhaps a couple of other points by people would be worth considering.

Sorry - not a very straightforward post but hope it helps a bit.

Great, thanks; I'm sure we're all happy to help out & test as necesary

Agreed; been there, seen it & seen them banned (again)

Would the new site have all member migrated or would you take a subset of those active within the last year (or similar)?

Also, would the account activtion process be similar?

Agreed, but suspect that this is one of many; again, suggest we keep a list of 'suspects' going as it's been useful so far

In general Ronlad, from my angle, stick with it & keep it up, eh?

Sounds good, Ronald. Step in the right direction.

I'm sure Aliena has her spare IDs here already, as David said, which she picks up when it suits her. She's too well organised. There is some sort of agenda and I think the same problems will persist on the new site.

I almost never look at the Italy Uncovered Forums, but I happened-by the other day and noticed that they seem to be having similar problems to those we had, with the same members.... surprise, surprise! Why would we want members back, who are happy to call the magazine funding the Forums 'ItRag' anyway?

I'll be honest and say I miss 'Relaxed' and would be happy to have her back. Notaio is greatly missed, and CJ too, but were a voluntary defectors, after all. The rest, good riddance! My view is that these forums may well fold within a short time or collapse into a black hole under the gravity of intensive posting by a small number of fanatical members.

I look forward to the new site and hope that it will be a good place for all our members to be, not just the vociferous minority. I must confess, I'm not very au-fait with this whole social networking malarky, but the Wiki feature sounds as though it will be a very useful addition. Go Ronald!

Agree with Davids comments - so will not repeat. Migration will be better than re-registration clearly.

Good luck with the design of the new site. Best to keep deleting the duplicate accounts of the previously deactivated - they take a while to come out into the open anyway.

I had a number of WordPress errors today. I guess that this is the new app and that these are some of the birthing pains........good luck again

Will the new site be more BlackBerry friendly?
