Heaven's that's a surprise. Is that the Cafe to the left of the square as you enter via the arch from the direction of the Astoria Hotel? If it's the one I'm thinking of the owner is a Slow Food member and was very pleasant to us when we stayed at Fermo. We got in very late at night around Easter when the motorway was one solid traffic jam. The hotel restaurant had closed and they suggested the cafe. The place was on the point of closing but they suggested they could supply a few spuntini, perhaps some salami and cheese.

Then as we sat there prepared to make the most of a frugal supper they bought out plates of anitpasti, then pasta, then local castrato grilled over the fire and stunning deserts while mumbling excuses for "not being up to our usual standard."

Living in Lunigiana, this is not the sort of news i need to wake up to on Saturday morning!!

Ah I recognise the place now. Robert will be only going on his birthday. Dont know how much a pint is but we have drunk there once with friends and came away reeling at the prices. Ok a premium for sitting in the main square in Fermo, but it is not that fantastic to merit in my opinion such a cost. But then again we are not tourists and not used to paying the price.
We slunk away to a much jollier and cheaper place through the arch exiting the square, to lick our wounds and our wallets. It didnt have Spitfire though!

Shucks... We're a bit too far away too, but luckily OH is now very comfortable with our lovely local wines - Chianti - Classico and Aretini and the wonderful rossi of Montpulciano and Montalcino.

We don't need expensive imported foreign muck in Abruzzo, we have our very own beer brewed in Pescara.

And TBH I'm very happy with Amarcord beers brewed in San Marino.

Especially 'La Tabachera' dark beer and 'La Mi Dona' pale ale. My friend from Pescara wants to know where they grow the barley and hops in San Marino, possibly in window boxes?

The Castello Udine beers from Friuli are also worthwhile.

Just to be sure that you all go to the right place, prices are not high, (from what I rememeber after a few pints the memory starts to fog over a tad!) as you enter the piazza through the arch, it is the 3rd bar on the right, immediately AFTER Bar Lady, (nice name eh!) and has a green sign across the top, Caffe Alimento, it is actually the oldest established bar in Fermo, they do do food too, and prices are good, so if you remember an expensive bill, it is probably somewhere else......don't get too rinsed!

After the Lady Bar on the right ,is it the last bar on the corner before the arch?.
