8572 Old age concessions in Italy

Does anyone know a web-site or other source of information
listing concessions available to "senior citizens" in Italy?

I'm thinking of things like reduced fares on railways and/or buses.

We are from Ireland, where there are extraordinary allowances,
eg free travel on trains and buses, free TV,
electricity allowance, etc.
I guess there is nothing like that in Italy?

(I actually think they do too much for OAPs in Ireland,
and not enough for mothers of young families.
But that doesn't seem to be a common viewpoint.)

No idea of a complete list.

If you go to the trainitalia website you can register for a card with a seniors discount. The card is free.

For TV they brought something in last year. But you need to be at the bottom of the income level with nobody below the age limit at home. I forget how high the age limit was but from memory it was higher then just retirement age.

I'm sure the people actually able to benefit will have better lists to share.

Most of the 'discounts' for pensioners in Italy are based locally at Province level and would need the person to hold a local INPS (or equivalent) pension certificate. Discounts are very small and usually are only given on production of your Identity Card proving residency.

An example of the only (to my knowledge) discount that I am entitled to is to use the lake boats/ferries on Lake Como. The discount is only for me - the car has to be paid in full. It will only be given Mon - Fri and NOT on 'festa days'. Total discount on my ticket - 10%.

is a link to Intrage showing various discounts around the country - all in Italian though I'm afraid.

Always check for concessions for exhibition tickets and gallery tickets in Rome certainly, many are free but don't forget to have some proof of age status handy if asked. There has to be some advantage!

Certainly most museums and galleries throughout Italy have a 'discounted' rate for pensioners. Even as a tourist visitor, showing a passport with a date of birth should work.

Local transport, as CaroleB has mentioned, is often discounted, although you do need to have made some sort of simple application to either the comune or the transport operator.

(Unfortunately there is no discount on speeding fines, jumping red lights, illegal parking, or driving in ZTLs!)

Thanks very much for all the advice.
Not sure what to ask the local commune/council,
but I'll have a go.
