Budget airline Ryanair has announced it is to expand its operation to a new base at Birmingham International. The airline will fly to 22 destinations in Spain, France, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Sweden and Denmark.
Ryanair’s expansion comes after Holiday Which? found Ryanair to be the worst offender when it comes to adding on extra charges. The budget airline charges passengers £20 at the airport to check a bag into the hold and £4 to use the check-in desk.
Which? travel spokesman, Bob Tolliday, said: “There’s no doubt that the arrival of a major no-frills airline at Birmingham will help to drive down fares, but passengers should always watch out for add-on charges that can raise the cost of flying considerably.”

Perhaps Mr Tolliday was referring to BA's fuel surcharge: £20 on a return flight to Europe (not optional) rather than Ryanair's baggage and airport desk check: £18 (optional)
