8596 Naples trip in May

Can anyone tell me just how bad the rubbish situation is in Naples?.i am planning a 3 night stay in May and just would like to know how much the place is suffering.i will be staying in a self catering apartment in historical centre but the fear of being surrounded by piles of rotting rubbish doesn't exactly float my boat!.is this a suburb problem or is the whole place rat infested? .We're only using it as a base to visit the likes of pompeii,herculanem,Vesuvius etc so is it best to look out of town for somewhere to stay or is old naples coping ok? cheers neil

[COLOR=darkorchid]Relatives in a Naples suburb (Nola) say it is a terrible situation. Unable to be outdoors. Most citizens are walking around with surgical masks. Rodents are everywhere. Young children and the elderly are having respiratory problems. The weather is mild (50ish) as temps go up and the piles get higher it will only get worse. It is city wide. I can not specifically recommend other housing but do suggest Salerno. It is a nearby city and centrally located to all of the sites you wish to visit. [/COLOR]

yes, the advice was good, stay in Salerno where thanks to an efficient local administration there is no rubbish problem...the way things are going in naples it'll be worse in may with civil disorders adding to rodents and dioxine smoke from burning garbage,salerno is also nearer to your venues and you can easily explore the amalfi promontory from there as well as pompei etc
