Lunigiana, near to Aulla?

Lisa
I think Deborahandricky -- forum members -- do package delivery and house moving, from what I remember of a previous posting. Suggest you do a search for them on the forum if you've not already sorted out delivery of your package.

I have used Parcel to go. com which uses DHL and is very efficient. They charge £29 for a 25kilo parcel which is about all one can lift anyway. I have used them several times and they take about 3 days to Tuscany and I would reccomend them.

We tried to use parcels2go / DHL. We tracked it all the way to Pisa but it never arrived in Lunigiana even though we were waiting. Instead they sent it back to the UK and we brought it over on the next flight with us as an extra bag for £20 (but it was only 14kg) So we would NOT recommend Dumpit Hideit Looseit :nah:

I've received numerous parcels of books ordered from Amazon UK and a few packages from other UK retailers. The thing that mystifies me is how the parcel ends up in the hands of a particular delivery company at this end. There seems to be a plethora of courier firms which are sub-contracted to do the actual delivery. I've had stuff sent DHL and UPS, but I've yet to see a driver or van in those companies livery. Normally, it's some grizzled old geezer driving a battered, grimy white van who wheezes up our driveway and kicks the battered parcel out the van's back door.

However, the only parcel that has ever been returned as undeliverable was one sent regular mail. Someone new took over as parcel van driver for Poste Italiane and so the address that had worked fine for months (and continued to do so for letters) suddenly failed to work for parcels.

:veryconfused:

Over the past 8 years we have experienced difficulties receiving parcels from both Italy and Uk. Our address is Via Campagnia 11.... and that doesn't mean much. The comment re who makes the final delivery is correct. You may use UPS or DHL but a man in an annoymous van, rings up and we arrange a place to meet. The vital part is to ensure that your phone number is included in the address...no they never refer to the phone book where you are listed..!!

The best solution fo rus so far is to have parcels delivered to a friend's Hotel..easy to find and on a main road. Most English companies will accommodate this request if arrange before hand. Live in the middle of nowhere? Find a friend who lives on a main road!

If your friend is returning with said van to Yorkshire I am interested in getting three long items to Leeds?

on a wider note does anyone know if we could set up some sort of register in the forum of spare space on journeys either way as I'm sure it happens all the time judging from the amount of UK reg vans that I saw heading this way.
Hi

Great idea, surely would be welcome by many of us, as it seems that luggage on flights is not getting any better , so how about it as a forum topic please?

Hi Lisak,
Just wondering if you have got your parcel problem sorted as I live just down the road (Forti die Marmi) and I am going to the UK and back in the next week or so. If I can be of any help get in touch.
Dear Lisa, Wish I had read your message last month, when my daughter and I drove her 45 kilo harp to the UK (near Bristol) and I came back with an empty van. You didn't say whether the 40 kilos can be divided - or what the volume (height, weight, length) is. We might be bringing the harp back in two months, and Aulla is on the way (almost). So maybe we can help you. Depends also on your timetable. Best regards, Norma
I might be coming from UK with an empty trailer around that time, very flexible, any help.

As mentioned in other answers, I'm going back to UK soon and will be passing near to your area and on to the south of England, any help?
Hi John,

Yes that would be very helpfull, ill have the parcel ready, some time this week
Sorry Lisak, I was going with my car and trailer sometime this week but my boss offered to hire a large van for me and I just couldn't refuse. The problem was that it was last saturday and I just got back today (wrecked). Is it urgent as I will probably be going again sometime in March or April. It was a shame as the van was totaly empty going there, on a wider note does anyone know if we could set up some sort of register in the forum of spare space on journeys either way as I'm sure it happens all the time judging from the amount of UK reg vans that I saw heading this way.

Good idea Johnnyjohn.
I agree it would be usefull to have some sort of register or flag up for people who might need small/medium items sending over to Italy or back. I certainly would like to send some odds and sods over occasionally like a chair, rug, pictures or books etc and happy to pay for it if someone is going over with some spare space.
John,

Any time in March is fine by me
Ok Lisak, I'll see how things go and keep you posted. Where in the UK is it to be picked up?

Posted this on another thread before but I hope it helps.

If you've only got a couple of boxes - ie not a house move, then I've found Parcelforce Euro 48 a good bet.

Just sent 5 boxes to Le March from Surrey total 106kgs for £193 and they collect, so no taking down to the post office. Takes 4 working days (OK, so they delivered a day late) and arrived fine nothing broken or missing. Each box/carton must not exceed 30kgs or be more than 1.5m girth.
