8877 'Ahead Of Schedule"

That's a quote from the new Ryanair website which was due to go live at midnight tomorrow, Monday/Tuesday and lo and behold they are a day early. All I can say it seems one big mess. Are others experiencing utter hell with it too??? lol

It looks no different to me; same gaudy site selling cheap flights.....

Agree David but now a pain to navigate!!! Cheek to say it's ahead of schedule when there are obvious technical problems.

Oh turtle - don't knock the Ryanair website! At least their new website has been delivered!!!

Charles, there is a saying that springs to mind. "If it aint broke leave it"

I have never heard that saying before!

Actually I believe that Ryanair was told to change it's website by the regulator. I know how very difficult and time consuming it is to launch a revamped website, so the fact that they have done so in less time than expected should draw praise not complaint. If they were late, you would have every right to moan.

I don't think there will be praise from Ryanair management for this release, because when I tried earlier it was actually impossible to buy any tickets!

Yes I have had considerable problems in the last hour checking in. One good thing I noticed is that there are now various fax numbers for Customer Services. Let's see if this link works still!!! - Ryanair.com - FAQS : Contacting Customer Service

one of the main draw backs for me is the removal of the search for cheap flights it seems that now you cannot search for flights within a range of dates only specific dates, bring it back i say it was much better and easier,

I also used the old "find cheapest flights" screen to get a range of dates. You can still do this on the new system - there's a check box labelled "flexible dates" (or somethign similar) when you specify your origin, destination, # of people etc. Tick that, and the next screen shows (graphically rather than the old text listing) the price for each flight/day. It's not ideal (doesn't seem to work if dates are within same week, but that may be a teething problem), but in essence its the same thing.

ps. I usaually used a 3rd party flight checker Budget Airline FlightChecker tells you when to go for the cheapest price: MoneySavingExpert.com for Ryanair (and other Airline) flights. this was a lot better at specifying your criteria and presenting the results in an easy to view manner. It's unclear whether the flightchecker is currently "screenscraping" correctly from the new RA website (I have my doubts) but if not, I'm sure they'll get it working a.s.a.p.

It's still there but you have to look carefully and they seem only to give you a six day period. I can't remember how though and the website is clogged up still alas.

Better before I agree.

This too is quite a new useful tool - Ryanair.com - Ryanair Bargains!

re. the bargains tool - last thing I need is a Ryanair popup application installed on my PC unless its doing something really useful ... I couldn't see what this offers me over & above their existing email alerts - it claims it gives access to some 'special general offers', but I'd wager that these are just marketing rubbish for their credit cards etc. It also says its real time, but the emails always arrive before the start of a promotion anyway.

Anyone who downloads & runs this, please post some feedback on whether it works well, how much PC memory it uses & whether it gives anything better/additional to justify installing it.

Okay I'll do it just for you Pigto. I bet though it's for pcs only!!! Watch this space.

Yes for pcs. However, as an alternative, they also advertise them via RSS Feeds but there seems to be no link.

Found it. Under Download now is tiny print.

I can't get any useful response for "book a flight". Maybe the new site came in a day early because they forgot to make the site compatible for Macs... and I'm only using Ryanair because Easjet seem to have lost interest in providing summer flights EMA to Rome. I feel like Victor Meldrew this evening!

Just used the new system to book a return flight to Bari and I opted for no bags and on line check in. The previous system realised you could not use on line check in for the return journey so you had to pay the check in supplement. However on this new system it would appear I have on line check in at Bari! Is that right?? Has progress been made?

Managed to get an answer to my question above. Yes you can now book online at Bari & Brindisi (and no doubt the other provincial airports in Italy) although someone tried it last week and the system failed, but Ryanair accepted that and did not charge for normal check in! Maybe they are human after all!

I have managed to check in online. However i now want to take an extra bag but i cannot do so unless I ring The Reservation Centre at a premium rate number as far as I can see. Am I right???

Unfortunately I think you are. I looked for this option as I wanted to check in a bag to bring back some oil, but could not find anywhere to do it on line. Mind you the format of the pages changed at least 3 times yesterday whilst I was checking prices, so fingers crossed it may appear, but given that they want to discourage desk check in I doubt it!

Thank you Luce. Maybe I don't have to check these items in. My concern is spare parts for my bed there ie, metal, narrow, flat strips and a few screws which have been a real pain trying to get. Are they considered sharp objects???

Sal - if you go to 'manage my booking' on the home page and put in your confirmation no and email you should get a page up which has various options including 'book extra bags/sports equip etc'
That should help I hope..Its very slow still.

M

Thanks Marina. Alas though I have already checked in online and want to take hold luggage. I don't think I can now. Marina if you haven't booked yet, wait until Midday then book ..... new promotion

It looks like you should be able to Sal - I don't think you could before - you may have to pay the extra at the airport rather than online but it appears to be an option.
I'm having all sorts of fun and games - Booked flights for may yesterday, could not pay on maestro (which they seem to have renamed mastero) as it did not accept my 16 digit no was long enough, took mastercard (for an additional £8 the robbing bastards), gave me the confirmation no but said booking not confirmed till you get a confirmation email. None has arrived as yet and when I put the ref into the manage my booking area it says the details and my email addy do not match.
Deep sigh. Yes the 1p promo at midday will be interesting - just watch the system crash.

M

Eh no Marina I can't it seems - Ryanair.com - FAQS : Can I check-in baggage once I have checked-in online? and wonder now how to get these metal strips there!!!

I checked the baggage restriction and guess what they seem only to mention the liquids rule. Another observation . No search engine on their web site. How daft is that???

Looks like Ryanair spoke too soon! Half way through a booking the site stopped responding and I can't connect to their website at all currently.

It's interesting as one of the stated benefits of the "upgrade" was the extra capacity to cope with growing demand. Perhaps the demand has grown beyond their forecast over the past 4 days :-)

I notice (when it is working) that the new site still behaves quite badly whenit comes to giving you the full price. All fares are stil quoted without taxes and fees until you chose the next step - which does not seem much different to the prevous site - despite the OFT forced change.

On the subject of taxes can anyone explainhow taxes can be a variable? I have paid (or been quoted online) several levels of tax for departures from the same flight on different dates and prices. Sometime the flight costs is constant but the taxes are variable, all very inconsistent.

Check the breakdown of the charges Phil. Unless the flight is a giveaway, the actual tax due to Governments, payed, remains constant. Only the passenger services fees vary or are dropped in promotions. Hope that makes sense.

Perhaps true, confirmations summarise as "Taxes, fees & charges
" so I guess I have to look more closely on line to be clear on actual taxes versus other rip off additions.

Looks from what some are posting that the website works for them. I've been trying to access the booking pages since yesterday and nothing seems to load properly. Anyone else having this difficulty? I assume this is due to their reconfiguring everything and that it will settle down - and not (I hope) due to the reason Ryanair give, i.e. high demand.

Licciana, it took me about 20 attempts from yesterday to today. Eventually - success. My problem seems to have been that the computer wasn't prepared to wait the length of time it's taking, without deciding that there was "error". Maybe there's a backlog; keep trying and good luck!

Current apology from Ryainair "the slow response airline"
"The new Ryanair.com website is now up and running. However, due to phenomenal demand some customers are experiencing some delays during the online booking process. The website has experienced large surges of demand tooday, owing to the closure of the website at the weekend and the 1p (tax inclusive) fare which went on sale at lunchtime today. Click here for details of this offer (link deleted as I dont see why we should advertise for Ryanair)
Ryanair wishes to apologise to any customers who have suffered any inconvenience attempting to access the website over the last 24 hours and can be assured that we are continuing to work hard to rectify these teething problems and deliver improved internet access and faster booking speeds for customers this evening and over the coming days."

I tried again late last night and found that most of the problems I was having earlier seemed to have been resolved, so all is well - that is if you disregard Ryanair's new policy of charging £18(!!!) for checking in a bag.
Blimey :eeeek:

Has anyone made a booking and received an email confirmation yet? I booked on Monday eve after much gnashing of teeth with the system and got a confirmation code which said confirmation not complete until you receive the email. Nothing has arrived yet..And when I try to manage my booking it says the email addy does not match the booking code.
Sigh - I really dont want to call them.
I love the way the tax free 1p flights still have £10 tax attached too..
I love the way the tax free 1p flights still have £10 tax attached too.
What do you mean? They have a promo with 1 million 1p flights. If you choose a flight that is eligible (mainly just internal UK flights) that's exactly what they charge you - i.e. no tax of any kind (I just went through the booking process on Glasgow-Stansted on eligible flight dates to verify this).

Which, when you consider the UK government passenger tax which must still (presumably) be paid by RA to HM Treasury, is a remarkable loss leader. I think you are maybe seeing the "1p flights" headline and then looking at non-eligible flights/dates that are advertised as "from £10" ... fyi the 1p deal is only for specific routes (almost exclusively internal UK) from April-June, departing on tues/wed, and with many blackout dates.

On the email thing ... it was not uncommon under the old booking system for the confirmation to take up to 2 days to arrive if you booked during a peak promo. So, I'd not start calling the dreaded customer support line until Thurs am earliest (unless of course your outbound flight is this week!).

Aha me bad. I thought it was on all the 1p flights. Fooled again.
Hey ho.
