8938 Boca

Hi everyone

Does anyone know if we would need planning permission to create a BOCA pitch in our garden, we mentioned to a local and he said we would, someone else said not if it's for privat use.

Any help app'

I think you must mean 'boccia' which is a bowl used in the game of 'bocce' (il gioco delle bocce).

One of my neighbours has one and he is helping prepare another one elsewhere in the village. I haven't noticed any of the ususal comune notices declaring that the work is authorised. But of course different comunes may have local regulations. Best ask in the Ufficio Tecnico in your comune to be on the safe side.

I wouldn't have thought you need any planning permission. If you ask the question, someone might direct you to a Geometra who may inevitably say he/she will 'organise' everything for you and charge you for something that you can just do yourself anyway.

Ask at your comune by all means, but it's just a long gravel or sandy pitch in your garden with an outline of some sort. Unless of course you want to have walls or a roof etc and it becomes a building. As it happens, I'm planning to do the same in my garden. Funnily enough, I bought a good and inexpensive Bocce set in England as I couldn't find one in Italy and I've been taking a ball at a time - as they're quite heavy - whenever I go to Italy until my garden is finished. Last time I put the last ball in my hand luggage and almost had it confiscated at Stanstead as it could have been used as a weapon, apparently. Luckily, they allowed it through.
