A Forum member has the Sardinian flag as his logo, track him down and PM him Aretina. If you don't get enough to go on from Forum members, when planning such a trip to another region of Italy, I went to English newspapers online and searched for articles from their travel sections. Sunday Times, Guardian, Independent, Daily Telegraph etc. All came up with good suggestions. Hi,
February/March here is very quiet and I believe Costa Smeralda and various other places along the East coast will be more or less closed. In fact I was in Porto Cervo last week and apart from a dozen tourists wandering around the port and an open café, there was nothing else happening!! However, there are still plenty of other places to visit.
Heading North from Olbia you have the port town of Palau from here you can take a 30 minute ferry to the lovely island of La Maddalena, adjoining Maddalena is the Island of Caprera which was once home to Giuseppe Garibaldi. His house has now been turned into a museum which can be visited in the mornings.
There is a great rock formation just outside of Palau called “Capo D’Orso” and it certainly does look like a bear from a distance. I eventually plucked up the energy and walked up to the top, the views are certainly worth the effort.
Moving on to the North West Coast we have Santa Teresa, a nice enough little town and if you wanted you could take a day trip to Corsica from here. Coming down the North West Coast do visit the Medieval town of Castelsardo, in the historic centre you will find quite a few restaurants with fabulous views of the bay of Asinara (weather permitting!!).
Stintino with the famous beach “La Pelosa” definitely not to be missed , clear blue water and white sands. Heading slightly inland you have the beautiful “Basilica della Sarcarga” then on to Alghero which is certainly worth spending some in ( and you will find more restaurants etc open here). Then down to the medieval town of Bosa.
Oristano late February/March there is a carnival called “Sa Sartiglia” and would be worth visit, also if you like Roman ruins Tharros is a good site as well as Nora just south of Pula, I also quite like Tempio di Antas near Iglesias. Cagliari and its surrounding are definitely worth a visit. Living in the North of the Island I have not spent too much time down there so cannot really give you that much information, hopefully somebody else living there can contribute.
If you like wall murals check out the town of Orgosolo.

Thanks Debs - brought back happy memories of our honeymoon, which included a week in Sardinia.
Although there is lots to do without another island - it is also possible to take a short car ferry to Corsica from Santa Teresa Gallura to Bonifacio - which is an interesting cliff top town with some interesting contrasts (French, but not French so to speak).
