10835 Garden Machinery

Hi everyone
We've got an old farmhouse near Sulmona with around an acre of land, mainly grass but with a few fruit/nut trees & a small vineyard. We're looking for a small tractor and/or a ride-on lawn mower to keep the grass down & turn the ground over between the vines. If anyone knows of anyone looking to sell any machinery like this, we'd be gratefull.
Regards

Dougie

we have an excellent garden machinery shop in Teramo called Zero Green... it sells everything from ride on mowers to olive picking machines...

located at villa pavone...its the small industrial estate located near to the cemetery in Teramo... tel 0861 210604....

ok that's not much use to you ... located in Sulmona... but if you visit one of these types of places you can often pick up second hand or special deals ....

should warn you though that heavy duty garden machinery does come at quite a high price... even second hand... however in abruzzo or indeed i would say most of Italy in order to cope with large amounts of work the machines have to be tough and safe...

to cut our grass we need a mower with full tread-ed tyres and a differential lock to get up the hill... low centre of gravity so it does not tip over and hydrostatic gearing... because belts just do not hold it back on the hills....

sometimes its easier to go with a pedestrian version of a cutter...will certainly cost less and if you get flails and not blades it will chew up everything ... but you are looking at a couple of thousand euro ... for a new one...

after you buy one ...the good news is that at least in the place i mentioned the servicing/repairs are reasonably priced ... and i think that is pretty general throughout the region...

another thing to mention i guess is that if you do take the local agri.garden machinery shop route they will or should bring the machine out for a demonstration... and should you have difficult land they should soon put you straight on what type of system you require...

finally... sales of this sort of thing all have negotiable prices and there is a consumer crisis here.... make sure you either do not pay the list price or you get soemthing extra thrown in... ie a good strimmer or chain saw...

Deborahandricky recommended this site as they bought from them, as we also did. Good service and delivery, might be worth a try, all new though.

hi we bought a single cylinder 4 stroke mower from OBI in Ancona. we've got a similar sized lawn, had it for two years now, its the best hing we ever got. It does our lawn (about an acre) in a couple of hours. The tratorini cost us €990 no collector box, but they tend to jam up if the grass is damp. It pulls the roller (made from 45 gallon drum filled with stone and cement) I bought a tipping trailer to go with it for about €150 . We then bought a petrol rotavator that does our orto(about 100sq mtrs) in a couple of hours. That cost @ €300. So you can get both new for a total of about €1300. And with warranties. cheers chris

Many thanks to all for the good advice. I think I will look out for a mini tractor, I did get offered the owners (at a significant cost) when we bought the house but it was just more money at the time which I didn't want to pay out!!
Cheers
