10920 Lost Dog Please Help..ceglie Messapica, Puglia

HI THERE A QUICK UPDATE BUT
we were driving along the back road to our house last night, and we found our dog Foo, he was walking in the road..he is not very good, he has lost about 15kg in weight and he has a terrible infection in his eyes so he cant see anything. we have an appointment with the vet later today so we hope that with medicine it can be fixed and that he wont lose his vision or at worst an eye because one is really bad...we have no idea what happened, he has lost his collar but it looks like he was trying to find home and hasnt eaten for the last 5 weeks he has been missing.

anyway today he is sleeping until we go to the vets..
but thank you for all the kind messages i just hope the vet brings us good news
ciao tutti

Hi there from Puglia
Im not sure if anyone can help me but we have lost our dog..it has been 4 days now and he hasnt been seen or heard...I hope someone out there may have seen him. I know it is a long shot but anyway!! :nah:
We live near Frantolio Vinci half way from Ceglie Messapica and Martina Franca, a little way off the main road, our 2 dogs have lived here since they were puppies so only go a little way (as they are free to roam and not penned in) they always come back during the day and at night they come inside. On Monday I took one of our dogs out for a very long walk on a lead, trying to get him used to it but I think it has worked against me as I am worried that now he has become too confident and realises there is life past our garden!

He is one year old and looks very much like a labrador..he is very wary of people on a first meet and will usually bark at them, but within minutes he is a big softy. He has a red collar on but unfortunately no name or telephone number as it fell off and i never got round to replacing it. He goes by the name of FOO

How distressing I do hope you find him, have you tried the local police, am sure you have visited the neighbours in the area, he may as you say have wandered and then lost his bearings.
We once lost one of our cats, who was old and blind, but had managed to get out of the front door, I finally found him long after it was dark, but the time in between was dreadful, I do sympathise.

I do hope that you are going to find him. Sometimes it takes a few days. Organise some posters with photo and details and someone may be able to help. Best wishes.

hi there
thanks so much for you kind words..its just the not knowing really! He is a very strong dog im hoping he has just found a girlfriend and will be home soon! I havent tried the police, as stray dogs is a problem here and another one wandering around wouldnt really cause any concern im sure! Its a bit of a needle in a haystack as we are surrounded by olive and pine trees, with lots of little pathways and lanes leading off in all directions..
I really hope he finds his way home..
ciao x

There are a couple of members who live in your area Snapper - the ones that come immediately to mind are "The Smith family" and the other is "Technically Blond" (who has something to do with dog/animal rescue I think) - perhaps a PM to them would be worthwhile just in case they dont see this thread.

Good luck.

Hi Snappersass, I too hope you find him. He is actually at the right age to have fallen in love and if there is a ***** on heat anywhere near that is where he will probably be, serenading her.

Is he chipped? If so, if anyone does find him you stand a good chance of getting him back.

Good Luck.

Hi
no he's not chipped unfortunately! Think I will give him a few more days incase he has found love but went for a big walk today calling his name and heard or saw nothing..I will keep you all informed if he comes back !!!
THANKS ALL...p.s. I know technically blonde and shes a bit further south than me..but I will try The Smiths too

I know how distressing this is. I have three dogs of my own.

Recently I picked up an abandoned dog in Barbarasco, Lunigiana (so not yours I'm afraid) and I am trying to find a home for it. The reason I mention this is that when I was at the vets with him I asked what would normally happen to an abandoned/lost dog. My vet said there are kennels, but usually it is down to well meaning private individuals who look after as many as they can. My vet knew who these people would be in our area, so it may be worth a trip to your local vets to see who they know.

I really, really hope you find him.

It has all been said Snappergrass but I wanted you to know that I realise the nightmare that you are experiencing and send all my best wishes for your dogs safe return. If your beloved pet is found please do microchip him.

if he does return..it will be more than just micro chipping he will get haha...I am hoping he comes home..i will let you all know
thanks all :)
